Wild Floral Events specialises in faux, dried and fresh flowers as well as chair décor, hire items and venue dressing for wedding and events in Devon.
“I love the venue dressing side of my business, seeing everything come together after years of planning.“
I got the opportunity to speak with Louise to discover tips on selecting a florist and what a typical wedding day looks like for her and her team.
The Person Behind the Craft
Originally I am from a small market town in Yorkshire, but relocated to Torquay at the age of 18. In my spare time I love being outdoors, walking with my two dogs and family.
I have a big passion for interior design and home styling and I would say I am at my happiest when creating. I adore anything that’s crafty including painting, drawing, sewing and embroidery.
How Did You Get Into Floristry?
My love of flowers started when I began working as a Saturday girl in a traditional florist shop where I grew up. I just fell in love with how creative you can be with flowers! When I moved to Torquay in 2001, I then opened Wild Floral Events.
What’s Your Favourite Flowers To Work With?
That’s a hard one! It would be impossible to choose! Although… I do love roses. Roses give you so many variations from colour, shape and scent. I absolutely love Eucalyptus and Succulents too.
What Trends Do You See For 2021-2022 in Wedding Floristry?
I would say the Bohemian style, with lots of earthy, natural tones, dried flowers, Pampas grass, mixed textured foliage and candle light.
What’s a Typical Wedding Day Like For You?
A typical wedding day usually starts quite early, with delivery of the bridal party flowers. Once they arrive, we then head to the venue to set up.
Usually we are on onsite for about 3-4 hours, sometimes longer, depending on the size of wedding and the decor the couple have chosen.
What’s Your Favourite Aspect of the Job?
Definitely seeing a room transform from a blank canvas into my couples dream setting. We offer qualified floristry, venue dressing and hire items, thus giving you peace of mind that all aspects complement each other perfectly.
What Tips Would You Give Wedding Couples Who Are Looking For a Florist?
Every florist is totally unique from another. We all have different styles of work from traditional to quirky. My biggest tip would be to look for a florist that suits your style, taste and budget.
My other tip would be to meet your wedding suppliers in person if you can. I think when you meet your florist you will just know. Just like you do with your wedding dress! You will just click.
