In April 2022 I organised and coordinated my Balearic Bliss Wedding Styled Shoot at Uphill Farm Walled Garden in Yelverton. With a bit of luck from the English weather the sun was brightly shining and the air was warm. Perfect for what I wanted to achieve.
I had been speaking with Charlotte from Uphill Farm Walled Garden during the lockdown and it was quickly apparent how well we got on. At the time we both really wanted to do a styled shoot at her venue but we just weren’t sure on the theme. A secret garden theme naturally came to mind. The venue has these beautiful stone walls that surround a beautifully kept garden but this theme was too obvious.
We both agreed we wanted to do something a little bit different to stand out from other styled shoots. We wanted to capture the food, entertainment and also the ‘party’ part of the wedding day that often get’s missed on styled shoots. It had to include a musician, an aerialist, tapas food and pictures of the couple dancing and enjoying themselves.
Anyone who has been to Ibiza will likely be familiar with Ocean Beach Club – fun, lavish poolside day club which regularly features world class entertainment and feel good vibes. The club is instantly recognizable with its pure white day beds and bright orange décor contrasting against the turquoise waters of the pool. This inspired the colour scheme and ambience of the shoot.
The shoot needed to be outside as the venue has plenty of outdoor space and it was the best way to showcase the theme. The venue has a gravel path down the centre of the garden with towering trees. carefully placed flowers and a stone firepit for ample photo opportunities. The stone walls served as a natural backdrop for a lot of the photos and the open green area allowed space to set up our tablescape.
The Bride and Groom
The models needed to be in their 20/30’s with piercings and have that natural fun, happy look about them. Ellena and Raithe fitted the bill perfectly.
Staying true to Ibiza fashion, the bride was adorned with a statement headpiece and matching jewellery from The Lucky Sixpence and Molten Wedding Ring Company to add elegance to a wild theme. Her hair was plaited by NatalieNicholsBridal and her make up was effortlessly sun-kissed by Lucille n Co to give off that summery glow.
The bride and groom were dressed in lightweight materials to allow them to move freely and dance the night away under the festoon lights of the walled garden. Bridal Reloved Street wedding dress featured thin straps and a floaty floral design which complimented the three piece beige suit offered by Zebel Bespoke.
Lots of white and neutral colours were important to take the attention away from all the greenery in the Walled Garden. A large white rug scattered with neutral coloured pillows laid the base for the tablescape. The wooden picnic table was draped with a white table runner set for casual dinning under the shade of the tree’s branches.
Clear glass bud vases were placed in the centre and dotted with beautiful orange and white flowers, picked and arranged by the very talented Holly Bee Flowers. The pops of Orange from the poppies stood out against the vast neutral palette of the table. Finished off with turquoise lollipops from Emily’s Lollies at each place setting adding more colour without being too brazen.
Spanish tapas was the go to choice when selecting food for the Balearic Bliss theme and Uphill Farm do it brilliantly. Made in their outdoor kitchen the tapas was freshly cooked on their BBQ and served on a wooden board for the couple to enjoy along with a glass of Aperol Spritz to add more colour to the design.
The cake creatively designed by Copperhead Kitchen contrasted beautifully against the green hedge and the extra large seating plan making it a feature point for more photos. We even got to try some after the shoot and it was delicious!
To really make this styled shoot come alive it was important to incorporate a passionate Ibiza saxophonist and a freestanding aerial hoop artist that can freestyle to the chillout house music. DAN SAX was full of energy and knew exactly what classics to play. His ability to get the couple involved brought laughter and feel good vibes all around. Laurair moved freely to the music creating shapes that made a talking point for all those who witnessed.
Butterfly Photography really captured the lighting and the colours from the shoot. Seeing the shadows through the trees and the light behind the couple, it gave variety in the photos as the day went on and as the sun set. Sally from Capture Weddings Videography worked collaboratively to show off the movement and the natural smiles the couple wore throughout the shoot.
The pictures and video felt so summery and modern, a fitting feature for a summer magazine edition. All the suppliers were pleased when we made it into Devon Wed Magazine as front cover!
I love creating styled shoots. It gives suppliers the opportunity to connect with new suppliers and be more creative with their designs. As well as wedding planning and coordinating, I also offer wedding styling. Keeping the style personal to your taste is important to me and your characters should shine through. In this shoot I wanted to capture summer love and the suppliers made that happen with all their incredible talents.
