Vendor Spotlight: The Whole Caboodle Design

I have had the pleasure to speak with Lorraine, the maker behind The Whole Caboodle Design. It’s fascinating to hear about how she got into making wedding stationery and the boundless possibilities within it.

“I just love making beautiful things that people will treasure.”

The Person Behind the Products

Hi, I’m Loraine and I am ‘The Whole Caboodle’ It’s just me working away in my home studio. I am lucky to be able to say that my work is also my hobby so when I have free time I use calligraphy to relax.

Many of my weekends are spent watching my teenage son and daughter at their football matches and I am currently being kept busy by our new Cockapoo puppy Lola. I like to stay fit and run with a small running group from my village and I also love reading and searching for treasures at flea markets and antique fairs which I can use for collages.

What is ‘The Whole Caboodle’?

The Whole Caboodle is an independent wedding stationery company based in South Devon offering bespoke product designs for Brides and Grooms. I like to think I offer something that you don’t get from every stationer. My products are handmade and tailored to each couple’s needs which just makes them extra special.

How Did You Get Into Selling Wedding Stationery?

When I studied Graphic Design and Illustration at University we had to undertake a project where I created handmade greeting cards. I shared the designs with a couple of shops nearby which placed orders straight away. I got recognised by an agent who took my work to trade shows such as London’s Top Drawer and Birmingham NEC gift fair.

From there my agent took orders for my work for gift shops and galleries including Harrods, John Lewis and V&A museum gift shop. My best selling designs were cards for weddings so several years later I decided to take my business in that direction and began a dedicated wedding stationery collection submitting and seeing my work featured in national bridal magazines.

What Products Do You Offer?

I offer save the date cards, invitations and RSVP cards, menus, place cards, seating plans, table numbers and favours. These come in various finishes such as printed, handwritten and engraved depending on the product.

I’m happy for my couples to order as much or as little as they need (minimum order of 10 on most items). If they just want to come to me for mussel shell place names for example, that’s absolutely fine!

I also offer guest books, deckled edge vow books, hand scripted ring dishes, calligraphy on bottles and engraved champagne flutes. I can even help out with your wedding proposal! For example, I can hand script a quote, or write words of your choice which can be rolled into a scroll, slid inside the engagement ring and offered in a romantic shell purse. A beautiful proposal that can be kept forever, what could be more romantic?

What Inspires Your Work?

My work is inspired by writing of a bygone era. I have a large collection of immaculately scripted solicitors documents from the 1800’s, some featuring the tiniest writing you can imagine as well as hand scripted letters, treasured books of handwritten poetry. This fits well with my love of period dramas and classic novels (The Bronte sisters and Jane Austen being my favourites). I think maybe I was just born in the wrong era!

What Trends Do You Expect in Wedding Stationery for 2021/2022?

I think the delicacy and beauty of deckled edge handmade paper means it will still be a firm favourite for the foreseeable. Pair this with calligraphy for the personal touch and hand engraving for lasting keepsakes.

Personalised shells for place names will be back with a bang once weddings start again. I’ve had so many enquiries asking if I’ll be able to get hold of enough! We will also see more hand engraving on favours and calligraphy on bottles.

What’s Your Biggest Accomplishment That You Have Achieved Since Starting The Whole Caboodle?

I would say working alongside wedding stylists and suppliers that I really admire and seeing my work featured on so many of the blogs that I love is my biggest accomplishment. This year alone has seen photo shoots and weddings that I’ve been involved in being featured on blogs such as Festival Brides, Green wedding Shoes, Rock my Wedding and Love my dress.

Focusing on the finer details is what will help your wedding stand out. The Whole Caboodle provides a unique opportunity for couples to create personal wedding stationery that can be kept for longer than just the one day. A great investment for anyone who wants to create a lasting impression or who plans on displaying these keepsakes in their own homes.
